WHY THIS WATCH

The Rolex Datejust is a classic timepiece that has been a mainstay in the world of luxury watches for over 70 years. The first Datejust model was introduced in 1945, and it was the first wristwatch to feature an automatically changing date display. This revolutionary feature was made possible by a new self-winding movement developed by Rolex, which also allowed the watch to have a more streamlined, sleek design. The Datejust represents the spirit of the Rolex by treading that fine line between an all-out dress piece and something robust and versatile enough to be worn everyday.

The Rolex reference 16XX is a vintage Datejust that was in production from 1959 to the late 1970's. The 1603 was made during the golden-era of vintage datejusts, and has an engine-turned bezel which was eventually discontinued and replaced with the fluted bezel in later models. This reference is highly sought after by collectors and is considered one of the most popular vintage datejusts.

On the wrist, this watch feels like the perfect vintage datejust. The watch also has a classic, elegant look that is timeless, making it perfect for both formal and casual occasions. The dial on these 16XX models looks much simpler than the ones on later datejusts. Pair this with the acrylic crystal, and this watch gives off a warm vintage vibe that you can't get from later models. The 36mm Oyster case is the perfect size for me, and sits well on the wrist without feeling too heavy or bulky. The jubliee bracelet is another standout feature, and is buttery-smooth on the wrist. This particular example is really excpetional for its age, with a very well preserved dial and case.

THE LITTLE DETAILS

This watch is a 5.2m serial number making it a 1978 watch. This watch is in fantastic condition with a very clean dial, sharp lugs, and a clean bezel. The bracelet is tight and showing very little stretch and will fit up to a 7.25 inch wrist. The Rolex 1570 movment is running strong without issues. No box or papers.
